Mail Spam Prevention & Protection Measures

In our efforts to help our customers and actively fight against Spam on the Internet, we use multiple means of identifying unsolicited commercial email (UCE), commonly known as Spam, and find ways to stop it. Below are the various types of methods we use to stop spam.

DNS based Blackhole services:
The following is a list of blacklist services, that we utilize to either reject mail entirely or to aid in the tagging of mail as it is identified as spam. Our mail servers will reject mail from open mail relays, open proxy servers, and known spam sources based on blacklists that we trust and are less aggressive. We utilize some of the more aggressive lists in the tagging of mail messages. We routinely research each of these lists to ensure that we eliminate any false positive results and minimize lost mail but at the same time provide quality anti-spam solutions to all of our customers.

Zen The Spamhaus Block List spamhaus.org
DSBL Distributed Server Boycott List DSBL
AHBL Abusive Hosts Blocking List
njabl.org Not Just Another Bogus List
OPM Blitzed Open Proxy Monitor List

DNS Park proudly supports DSBL and AHBL by providing DNS mirrors of these services.

Message filtering and tagging:
Using SpamAssassin, DNS Park tags all messages that are sent through it's mail servers as they are checked by various heuristic tests for the presence of Spam. See our HOW-TO on filtering spam for information how this can be useful to you. Additionally, various other blacklists are tested to further enhance the capabilities of SpamAssassin. One of such is uribl.com. DNS Park supports uribl.com by providing DNS mirrors of the service.

Potentially harmful attachments:
Certain harmful attachments will be renamed as they traverse our mail servers. By renaming attachments, this thwarts many simple viral messages from spreading since they attachment name they expect to execute is not available. However, do note that we do allow most attachments to pass through our systems. Our goal is to help increase the awareness of our customers, and help promte a safer Internet experience.

Files with the following extensions will be removed:

We provide these services free of charge and it is our goal to provide top quality services that both allow the freedom to get your business done and at the same time provide some basic protections and filtering.

If there are any questions on why we do what we do, please let us know.
